What about housepaints on canvas? Not oil based, I guess alkaline? Would abstract watercolour work on canvas?

Problem is Ive NEVER painted anything before, other than on paper with my kids...I want colours to match our house and don't want to spend a fortune, I have watercolours, kids paints, and housepaint. I thought the housepaints would be best for matching colours. Am I insane?
