When I buy Rift on Steam will it automatically start my subscription?

I am not sure. I know that when you buy Rift retail you have to set up your account in order to list your card information to pay through a credit card. As for steam I have never played a subscription-based game but I would ume it works the same way and that you will have to set up your credit informatio for the subscription fees after the purchase.
