If my family comes from Dom. Rep., and I have ancestors that came there from Spain, is my origin Spanish?

My family comes from D.R., and both my paternal and maternal ancestors came from Spain, the generation not being well known, and intermarried with people in D.R. So my family has been there for several generations. If my ancestors were Spaniards, should I also view the people from Spain as my people in addition to the D.R. people?
